This book is absolute garbage. At least 95% of it is filler content, and most of it has absolutely nothing to do with public speaking. The last chapter that I read for a homework assignment went into how to use Google or a library to do research. I have to suspect that most of the positive reviews for this are fake, because this is just painful to read. The actual useful content of the book could have been condensed down to 2 or 3 pages. It amazes me that people can make so much money overcharging college students for garbage like this.

Great seller, fast delivery and easy purchase, BUT SUCH an AWFUL textbook!!TIP google the PDF of the previous version and find a free version- nearly EXACTLY the same- one added chapter in the new version, save your money.Not something I would want to keep around- horrific very very simple writing, and a book that glorifies it's profession constantly. I.e. some form of the sentence "The greatest profession you can ever pursue is in communication," starts off every chapter.There are multiple ENTIRE chapters where the author outlines how the best profession you can pursue is in communications. Also the online companion speeches by UW Students are constantly factually inaccurate, for example the speech on illiteracy rates actually cites population statistics for 1960, when the speech was delivered in 2011. The research is embarrassing.If you have a class that requires this book, unless you desperately need it for your major- I'd pass. All of the educational content in this book could be condensed down to ten pages. Instead of this textbook a small reference guide, similar to a "Strunk and White" quick tips type book would save students the major headache of reading this.This text was long winded, filled with dry condescendingly simple writing, and was painfully boring. PASS. If your stuck with it and have assigned reading, immediately just skip to the chapter summaries, don't waste your time actually reading, you won't learn anything.

There are quizlets for every chapter in this book, the entire semester I took this class I didn't open the book a single time and passed every quiz.

The author does a great job of explaining things in a way that is easily readable and applicable. I do wish that the value of the book matched the content quality. At the price of $103.24 at the time of this review, the book is way overpriced. The book is 300 pages, but this is only because of 3 inch margins and many unnecessary pictures (see product pictures). In actuality, the content is about 150 pages. In summation, the quality is good, however the price truly diminishes the merit of the book. If, like me, you are required to purchase this, you may be better off buying it used or renting it. The book is a quick read, so you may consider purchasing it/renting it with a classmate so that the price is truly worth it. You will be able to share it and each read the whole thing in just a few days.

The item arrived as a paperback when I arrived the open leaf. It also arrived with tons of stickers I was unable to get off without ripping the book. In the big picture, I am satisfied because customer service responded quickly and offered to ship me the correct book or provide a partial refund. For a book I will only use for one semester and may never open again afterwards, it is a great deal.

Needed it for class - only to find out that many colleges apparently have versions made specifically for their schools and thus the worksheets included are varied, as well as the content on the pages. Captions tend to be along the lines of, "This is so and so speaking at this event. Wow. What a speaker!" So you get ripped on both the empty space and unnecessary photos.Avoid if at all possible ~ heck, pool together to buy a new book and then make photo copies of the worksheets with classmates. These books are worthless other than for meeting the requirement for graduation.

After the tinge of grimness in THE BLACK CAULDRON, Lloyd Alexander gives us a more light-hearted jaunt to Prydain in the third book of the series, THE CASTLE OF LLYR.I love this rollicking romp, but this is my least favorite book in the series despite our introduction to the smallest giant in all literature, Glew who has a wildcat the size of a carthorse, Llyan.The basic premise is that Princess Eilonwy is being sent to the Isle of Mona to be educated as a proper young lady. There's talk that she will be betrothed to Prince Rhun, the heir-apparent of that kingdom. Taran, Assistant Pig-Keeper and our hero, discovers he doesn't like separation from Eilonwy and he likes the planned betrothal even less. Prince Rhun is a nice guy, but a total klutz! To make matters worse, when events transpire that put Eilonwy in danger, poor Taran is taken aside by the King of Mona. The King, knowing that his son is less than competent, asks Taran to look after Rhun as well.Talk about a heart-burning situation! Rhun strives to live up to his position and Taran strives not to mind the fact that he has to repeatedly save Rhun when he really wishes the prince at the devil! This is very funny for the reader.Events move at a rapid pace in this volume, however the ending is still abrupt and still makes me indignant. My lips are sealed on that--this is a no spoiler review!Perhaps another reason that I like this book least of all five books in the series is Eilonwy herself. I love her daft comments and she's assuredly brighter than Taran, but as a character she never changes. From book one to five, Taran undertakes a journey that step by step takes him into manhood. Although Eilonwy is roughly the same age, she seems born with the knowledge that twists Taran around her little finger; she'll never change from girl to granny. It's the one flaw in Alexander's vision that he can't show us anything of Eilonwy's journey into womanhood. I can't call it a small one, but I love this series so much I can't mark it down too much. Call this four and half stars, then, in comparison to the rest of the series.

At the beginning of “The Castle of Llyr”, I thought it would be a little different from the first two Chronicles of Prydain. Since Eilonwy is going to the Isle of Mona to learn how to be a proper lady (and, in true Eilonwy fashion, kicking and screaming about it), I thought this book might be a little short of the usual adventure. I was wrong about that – there’s definitely adventure, but since Taran’s growing up, it has a more mature feel to it. There’s less battling and more emotional content, and in my opinion, it works. “The Castle of Llyr” is the best Prydain work thus far.Remember what I said about Eilonwy training to be a proper lady? Well, Taran goes with her to make sure she’s safe on the journey to Mona (I suspect he just doesn’t want to say goodbye) and learns of the evil sorceress Achren’s plot to capture her. He’s too late to foil it, but he, his crow Kaw, Fflewddur Flam, Gurgi, and Eilonwy’s soon-to-be-betrothed Prince Rhun embark on a journey to save her. They meet up with a large mountain cat, an even larger giant, and, finally, Achren herself.Lloyd Alexander has a way of taking stereotypical characters and making them into something more. Rather than being dazzled by court life, the irrepressible Eilonwy notices of the women there, “The ones who have husbands are always complaining about them, and the ones who haven’t are always complaining about the lack of them!” Eilonwy also has a lot more to do with her own saving than most damsels in distress. Prince Rhun, her host and suitor, isn’t a wildly jealous freak; he’s a bumbling, good-hearted fellow who really tries to be a good friend to Taran. In fact, Taran’s closer to a jealous freak. But since we know his and Eilonwy’s history, it’s really kind of sweet.There are also lovely themes of maturity and second chances running through “Castle of Llyr”. Taran’s eagerness to go out into the world is almost painful when compared with Dallben’s melancholy at seeing him leave again. And almost every character, from the mountain cat to Achren herself, is not what he or she seems. Each has a choice to make, and for some, it’s not for the first time. Even if the original choice was bad, there’s always another waiting in the wings.When I began this book, I couldn’t wait to get it read and done with. It wasn’t until I finished that it finally hit me: I’m halfway through the Prydain series. Even if you count “The Foundling”, I only have three more books of Taran, Eilonwy, Gurgi, Fflewddur, Dallben. It feels like being punched in the stomach, I’ll miss them so much. I can reread, of course, but it won’t be the same.Then again, maybe it’ll be even better. But I don’t have to worry about that just yet: “Taran Wanderer”, here I come.

This was my first introduction to a Ralph Masiello how-to-draw book, and I'm never buying from another series!!! This particular book includes all the components for making a robot; then you pick and choose the ones you want to use to create your OWN robot. I love the creativity behind that! Of course, there are a few completed robots that you get the step-by-step for, which is also fun. We gifted this to our seven-year-old boy. The included pic was his very first attempt...with success! A great, super fun drawing book!

I got this for my five year old boy who seems to have a talent for drawing. He loves robots and he was able to draw a few of them right away! I love the way this book shows each step. It's much clearer to understand for someone who doesn't read yet. He's excited about drawing and I'm glad this book helped with his confidence because of it's simple instructions and easy to follow steps!

Elliott, 6 years old, loves this book! He told me he wants to write a book about Robots! This book has helped encourage Elliott to stretch his imagination even further. I am excited to order the other books written by Mr Masiello! This book is easily understood, packed full of cool ideas, and beautiful to look at.

I love these "How to draw" books by Ralph Masiello. Here is why:First of all, because Masiello himself CAN draw -- amazingly well, in fact. He is a remarkably gifted artist.Second, Masiello breaks the drawings down into steps that a five- or six-year-old (active) boy can follow. And by following the steps, my little boy has created some pretty great drawings.Third, this particular book is about robots. Robots! Who doesn't love robots? Who wouldn't want to create or at least draw his very own robot? Pretty much every five- or six-year-old boy I know would.

Bought this as a gift for my 8 year old brother and he loves it! These robots can be as complex or simple as you want. Lots of ideas! Great for adults too. I bought this one and the Halloween drawing book. I've had them for a year or so and they still get used! Would definitely recommend!

This how to draw a robot book is absolutely fantastic. It really takes you step by step! It can be used as a basis and expand on your own or it has suggestions of what you can add to make it more unique. Step by step black and white drawings and then a full page of the finished robot in beautiful color. It also tells you what they colored it with, ie; colored pencils, markers, crayon, watercolor etc.Highly recommend!

I gave this to my son for his 5th birthday. He loves to create Robots and really wanted to learn how to draw them. This book gives an easy breakdown on how to draw everything you can find on a robot such as electrical outlets to lightbulbs. It also helps children in learning their shapes. My son loves to stare and attempt to draw from this book on a daily basis. He takes this book everywhere we go, along with paper, clipboard, and pencil. It keeps him engaged and gives him the desire to learn how to draw robots. The Author did a great job breaking the steps down on how to draw a robot. I plan on buying more drawing books from the same author such as bugs and dinosuars!

Great for learning to draw. My son is 6 and struggles with fine motor skills. The book intrigues and frustrates him but I think it gives him something to strive toward. He loves the variety and shapes of the robots and the step-by-step how to. The book is so colorful. We checked it out from the library for about 3 months before purchasing it ourselves and have given it as gifts to others.
