The DVD's which I had replaced already once, become pixelated and make it harder to make out the details in motion of the language. The publisher seems to have no quality control and relies heavily on there being a class, as the book is written with BS things like "Answers will be given in class." Instead of allowing individuals to move at their own pace easily.I've attached a picture of an instance of the pixelation that occurs while watching the DVD, as well as the main menu tends to just be gray 80% of the time.

I only received 1 dvd with the book. The second was not in it. I am returning and I'm not happy. The description should have explicitly stated that the 2nd dvd was not included. Waste of time and money.

I teach ASL (American Sign Language), and have for many years. This series matches my teaching style, and is excellent for total immersion. As a Deaf person, I had used many of the strategies listed in the book before it came out, and Hearing instructors sometimes did not agree with me. When this series came out, I felt validated and vindicated. Excellent resource. Buy it!

A great book for learning simple signs, a little bit about Deaf culture and signer's perspective. However, the signers use some California regional signs, which is confusing if you aren't learning in California. The exercises also reference signers by name and ask questions about what each one says. The problem here is that not each mini dialogue begins with the signer fingerspelling his or her name, and there isn't an index of sign models, so the homework is sometimes difficult to complete just because of that fact.

Very good book, but just note it won’t do as a stand-alone—you need to use it in conjunction with a class (many of the exercises don’t have answers in the book, for example, and just say “answers given in class”).

Eh, the book rental was ok, but it was clearly stated that the textbook would come with the DVDs and I only got one DVD - plus it was broken. So I ended up having to buy a whole new textbook so I could get the DVD's for the class. Overall, the situation sucked. I was trying to save money and ended up paying double in the end.

Pretty spendy book for not being in color or having that great of illustrations. The book itself is very 1998. Needs an overhaul. The disc it comes with is more helpful. The book needs an index or the disc needs a review of vocabulary section. Unless the class you are taking provides flash cards you will end up having to buy or make flash cards as an aid because the book has nothing.

Thank you so much, this is everything the description was supposed to be and it was quick and easy and though I was a bit nervous about buying a workbook due to possible missing pieces or instructions, it came with everything I needed, like the DVDs and an access code. This was an amazing quality product and exactly what I needed at an amazing price. My school wanted to charge me double for the same product, so it was definitely great. Definitely going to pass this onto my fellow classmates who may need a cheaper but great quality product for ASL.

Just put my Kindle down....I hardly know how to start this review. I will never forget this book, nor the strong feelings it engendered inside me. For this reason, it has to be five stars. I hate romances; I never read them, and can barely tolerate a romance tucked inside a thriller or mystery, or time travel science fiction. I must admit, I almost put this down a couple of times during the first 20% or even 30%. In truth, it was so terribly depressing that I argued with myself about whether I should keep reading. Not exactly a description of a five star novel, huh? The problem was that the characters were so well drawn that I almost felt I knew them from another time, another life. I was annoyed that the author just about hit the reader over the head to emphasize the character traits....okay, I get it already! Meredith works herself constantly to keep from feeling anything; Nina runs all over the world to keep from being at home with her own feelings. Any "constant reader" can predict portions of the ending when books start like this. But...but....then I began to realize the depth of the history that I was being taught. The siege of Leningrad....I never thought of it before. Nearly nine hundred days and over one million people dead - more than 700 thousand from starvation - women and children in a world turned upside down. I never realized that this was yet another horror of World War II. I've read the Holocaust stories and thought of the suffering and the losses and bravery of the people of Europe and other countries....but Russia? I'm ashamed to say I knew nothing. This brilliant author had a story to tell and told it in the best context possible - through realistic people whose lives and feelings just about jumped off the pages and into my heart. Thank you, Kristin Hannah, for an amazing read.

This is one of the best books I have had the pleasure of reading. Not only from a storyline point of view, but also from a literary side - the writing is elegant, eloquent and simply a pleasure to feast your eyes and mind on. The descriptive text immediately conjures up the most vivid pictures (I hope this book is never made into a movie as it would destroy the beauty that a well-written book achieves). I am amazed at the way Kristin Hannah is able to jump from one character to the next, seamlessly, and actually get into that character's head so perfectly. It's like she IS those people! I was fascinated by the fact that she had described the Siege of Leningrad so well - I have been to St Petersburg and visited the Siege museum - it's horrific, fascinating and thought-provoking all in one. I have also been to several German and Polish concentration camps and not been as moved (still incredibly moving, I don't want to minimise the effect the latter have as well but differently so). It is hard to imagine what it must have been like for the Russian women in Leningrad under the Reign of Terror that winter; the psychological strain of Stalin's regime, the physical strain of the cold, the war and the famine, and the emotional strain of seeing your loved ones killed or die from starvation, illness and the cold. All these are so well portrayed by the author. In addition, I thought that the way she wove the two stories together through a fairy tale was exquisite - it kept me reading until the end. And the end...so satisfying in every way. This is a book that should be on everyone's MUST READ list!

I loved Kristin Hannah's The Nightingale. So naturally I was excited about Winter Garden. It started off interesting but it just dragged on about the dysfunctional relationship and the characters are so bland. I kept wondering when the mother would tell her story about Leningrad. This was one of those books I had to give up on. It had a good premise, but the execution fell flat. I think it would have worked if we had actually had the mother tell the story sooner rather than waiting further into the book. It seemed as though the author had many plotlines going on with the sisters fighting each other, their mom, Meredith having marital problems, the mothers fairytale/true story.

Kristin Hannah has a tremendous gift in her ability to weave voluminous historical details with relevant relationships in the present. In Winter Garden, she sets out pieces of a puzzle that grows in multiple dimensions with her characters and their individual and intersecting worlds. She truly takes one on a voyage throughout the world, into the past, and back to home. Kristin allows readers to have snippets of insight along the way without revealing next steps on the journey. While this is fiction, one realizes that real people did in fact experience horrible circumstances and yet survived. Growth and healing are key elements that help the reader absorb some of the horrific facts.

I know I'm in the minority but I hated this book. I love the author. Have read other books by her but I found this book depressing, and just plain boring. The story is about 2 sisters who must care for their mother after their father dies. Their mother has a past and the story is told by the mother to the sisters by way of a fairy tale; add to that the lives of the sisters being sprinkled into the plotline, this book was IMHO not even close to the Kristin Hannah books I've read previously.I say skip it read one of her others for example the Nightingale now there was a great book !

This book is pathetic - it repeats the same thing chapter after chapter. After the first 10 times I read how lost and isolated these girls feel (in almost the same words each time); I think I got the point. Hard to go on without Dad - yes, got it. Can't connect in their relationsships, yes, got it. Please tell me something new in the next few chapters or I give up out of boredom with all this repeated angst. I don't often put down a book without completing it; but I am going to make an exception with this one. The writing is juvenile, the characters "thin", the reflections on the human condition repeated ad nauseum. Save your money - i wish i could return this one. I can't fathom how it garnered 4 stars.

Reading it -- along with his other major chef d'oeuvre, "The Second Coming of Christ" -- has convinced me to become a devotee and student of his teachings. The insights he offers to the Gita are often literally breath-taking and his writing style is so eminently understandable as to be useful by anyone with a modest education and a sincere desire to learn.This is indeed a true spiritual classic of major proportion!

Out of all the translations of the Bhagavad Gita that I've read, Paramahansa Yogananda's is the most beautiful and comprehensible. Not to mention his insightful commentary that goes along with it. This new ebook version from SRF is so lovely - colorful and aesthetic. I've had the print version for a while now and always enjoyed it, even just reading a page or two puts my mind in an uplifted state. And so naturally I'm happy to have this on my kindle for on-the-go perusal. Would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in striving to live a spiritual life in the modern world.

I happen to be its translator in my language. Not at all good. It is a compilation of the two-volume one, "God Talks With Arjuna - The Baghavad Gita, again from Self-Realization Fellowship. One who really wants to understand the Gita, extremely metaphorical, should buy the two-volume one, which is more than excellent, written from Paramahansa Yogananda, "The Father of Yoga in the West". Find it here in Amazon. The full meaning is there (the two-volume), a masterpiece.

A must read for anyone that isn't interested in reading the Bhagavad Gita superficially. Yogananda sets the stage for the Gita perfectly so that the reader is (more) mentally prepared to embark on the Gita journey.

What a great book for those who love the GITA. Great text and commentary with nice photos.

This is an overview of the canon Buffy comic. As a TV series, Buffy's glory years were in high school. After that, the show lost its sense of magic and romance, gradually becoming a gloomy, poorly plotted bummer. Season 7 is littered with continuity errors. Enter season 8 in comic form, widely touted as JOSS WHEDON's season 8! Season 8 generally had very good artwork and got off to a strong start. Then it all went goofy. Whedon is a woke feminist so, of course, Buffy goes temporarily "gay now". Without spoilers, the last two thirds of season 8 are a dull mess. Season 9 is stronger, even though wokeness rears its grisly head again. Buffy might need an abortion! What choice will she make? Surely there's more to feminism than being gay or debating abortion. Even philandering Whedon's fake brand of feminism. After season 9 the artwork declines, by season 12 it's at Bazooka Joe level. Seasons 10 and 11 are ok storywise, then 12 limps to its death in a single, snoozer volume. Narratively, it's pretty iffy. A Big Bad that was surely long dead is now alive, doing, as it turned out, nothing. The ending is a dud and after all these years it's tempting to wonder if Buffy's legacy wouldn't have been stronger if it was cancelled after the wondrous season 3.

Although it was refreshing to have a briskly moving plot after dozens of tediously slow story arcs in earlier volumes, this was overly rushed and could have used a second book's worth of development. Especially the inexplicably jolting ending in a scant few pages.But what really disappointed was the horrible art. I can't tell if its all on the inker or colorist but the character's faces and expressions were barely recognizable. So possibly the penciler as well. The facial close ups were especially misshapen. A sad finale after so many beautifully rendered previous volumes. I strongly vote for a redo.

I'm a hard-core fan of the Buffyverse for many years, so the ending of the canonical series is a really big deal for me. And it did not dissapoint; actually, the final volume was very rewarding and satisfying. My personal favorite is everything Fray-related and Faith-related. I loved the art--as I always love the art by Georges Jeanty. The only thing that slightly spoiled the treat (spoiler alert) is that there is no mention and, hence, closure about a certain huge-importance let-it-stay-unnamed prophecy from Angel TV Series; I really hoped it would be used. Otherwise, I love it so much! Thank you, Joss, for this fantastic journey!

For the final installment of Dark Horse's Buffy I expected to have more closure with the Scooby core. Aside from that, I enjoyed the story and how they tied back in the Fray storyline.

I loved this ending for the Buffy comics. After ending the show twice, this third conclusion was very satisfying. I was glad to see all the beloved characters again and how they’ve grown. The story overall was well thought out. It didn’t feel rushed, and the writing was right on. Now if we could get the actors to play this out—it would make a great reunion movie. ;) In the meantime, I’m happy to read this again.

If you enjoyed seasons 10 & 11 of Buffy you will probably not enjoy this one. It seems that Mr. Whedon played a larger role in the writing of the final season and that he did not like much of how the plot or characters were developing. Do yourself a favour - ignore this one.

The two Philip Collins radio picture-books, "Radios Redux" and "Radios: The Golden Age", are both ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKINGLY STUNNING. I have never seen radios look so good, and I am a collector. You will want to rip every one of the pages out and frame them.These are mainly of the tabletop marbelized colored-plastic radios of the 1930's and 40's - the most good-looking of all the table radios, Ever. Catalin, bakelite, plaskon, and whatever other brand names they had for the plastics of the day - all seem to be represented.Both of these books are equally, truly, EYE CANDY.

A very nice book. Some gorgeous radios shown in here. A worthwhile addition for the radio collector, as is the other volume in the set.

Love the old radios best. The sound is wonderful. It's like listening to someone who has witnessed history. Great pics too.

This book is very well done, with many exquisite color photographs (presented in a sort of portrait-style) of dozens and dozens of radios, BUT BE ADVISED: its focus is bakelite and plastic radios - those bright, multi-colored, smallish ones, often with the kitschy designs.I was expecting much more coverage of the beautiful old wood cabinets, cathedrals, and consoles, with their rich veneers, marquetry, and grill cloth - there's nary a one of those in this book. So if your interests are wood radios, I would not recommend this book at all. But if you like the bakelite and plastic variety, then I would highly recommend this book.

Philip Collins is a British radio collector who lives in Los Angeles. His two books are just breath-taking - and show that US radio manufacturers had style very much at heart when they designed plastic cases for their radios in the 1930's and onward. I have enormous respect for what they were able to do to combine functionality with looks. The colours were fantastic (though I am not sure that they would pass today's health and safety rules on the use of heavy metals. I'm guessing the bright yellow colours, for instance, must be as a result of cadmium. But none of this detracts from the book....something that would actually look beautiful on an iPad or a Kindle Fire. I believe the book is now out of print, but resellers got me a copy in less than a week. Highly recommended.
