Wanderlust and Lipstick: The Essential Guide for Women Traveling Solo, by Beth Whitman

Review

Women tend to have reservations about traveling on their own, Whitman observes. These anxieties range from fears about personal security and health risks to guilt about leaving a partner and kids to fend for themselves. But traveling alone can be a joyous experience, particularly for women, she notes, because it allows them to find a sense of self-reliance, adventure, and freedom. In her guidebook, Whitman offers a range of useful tips about packing, ticket purchases, tipping, and all the usual fodder that make up travel tomes. But blended with the practical advice is deeper, more compelling guidance designed to persuade women that traveling alone isn't selfish, dangerous, or expensive. It's difficult, Whitman acknowledges, and she travels with relentless gusto, like a well-versed travel agent who s sipped the local wine, slept on hostel beds, and camped in the middle of the Australian outback.Whitman has the experience to back up her claims, and before she launches into her recommendations, she relates her tale of a first solo trip from Seattle to Panama by motorcycle. The journey was challenging, but instilled in her a sense of wanderlust that s kept her globe-hopping ever since, logging hundreds of thousands of solo miles as both a backpacker and businesswoman.Once she realized that she could travel alone happily, Whitman began persuading other women to get out of their homes and into the great unknown. She is the travel blogger for the Seattle Post Intelligencer, and teaches workshops and publishes a website for women traveling solo.Perhaps the most useful sections are the first three chapters, including Why Travel Solo? and Getting Beyond the Excuses. With her brisk, persuasive tone, Whitman could convince an agoraphobe to consider a trek to the pyramids or the Great Wall of China. Although she outlines many reasons that table-for-one journeys are enriching from setting one s own agenda for the day to being more approachable to strangers. --Foreword Magazine - Elizabeth MillardWomen have emerged in recent years as a growing demographic of travelers, stepping out either on solo adventures or in groups fueling growth in tourism by Americans. These three books, each with a helpful approach, are aimed at women travelers. For the planning stage and for first-time travelers, there is Whitman's website and book, which is full of specific details regarding how to pack and how to book a trip. This one is best for the nervous newbie. --Library Journal (Feb. 15, 2007)

I'm learning how to live on my own and was looking for a book with advise on how to be more adventurous. (My husband of 45 years was our travel "organizer".) she begins with traveling with a purpose (music, foodie related, history lover) and talks about the difference between adventure travel (I want to hike and kayak) and soft adventure (I seek experiences such as a cooking class or architectural tour). Chapter 3 ends with some challenges: have lunch alone in a restaurant (yes, I did that for the first time...first visit to a local pub alone); take an overnight trip alone to a nearby place (I think I'm going to explore Thomas Jefferson's Monticello). Whitman then walks you thru the steps to mapping out your trip, choosing overnight accommodations, getting around (train, car, bus, ferries, taxis, etc). There is information on passports, visas, traveling with medications, tech gadgets; legal tender for foreign travel, staying healthy on the road, packing and packing lists, meeting the locals, and an important chapter on safety first. This book is an encouraging guide that is helping me stretch myself in a new direction. I actually read this book just before going on a group tour with friends from the US to the U.K. I felt empowered with the knowledge I gained from reading "Wanderlust and Lipstick." I am now planning a weekend away...alone, and my next vacation to the U.K., probably with another group tour. I have been bitten by the travel bug!

This little book is certainly worth the price. Its an easy read but don't be fooled by the simple, straight-forward style and arrangement. It is chock-full of sound, practical advice. There are countless suggestions and links to important sites with necessary travel information. Not only do you get all of this for the price, you get motivation and support, too. Feeling a little skittish about that first foray into single travel? This author will hold your hand all the way through her insightful and well thought out book. Happy Trails!

I did not find this to be a particularly inspiring travel book, especially given the title. I expected more content aimed toward the traveling solo part and less on what I consider to be basic travel knowledge. I gave it an extra star because it does include a few decent pointers for basic travel skills. Although I think that saying the obvious, such as how they drive on different sides of the road in some countries, is almost rude. I would hope anyone thinking of traveling solo would do their homework about their destination of choice! It amazes me that you would need to tell someone that the place they are traveling to is...different! I think Rick Steves' books, Rough Guides or even Budget Travel Magazine do a better job of explaining what kinds of questions to ask yourself when choosing a destination. Additionally, some of the subjects seem like nothing but filler. For example, the author devotes more words to explaining RSS feeds than to the subject of jet lag! I don't need to know how to use the internet--I wanted solid advice on how to make my solo travel a more enjoyable and safe experience. If you've driven across the U.S. or traveled overseas you might want to continue to look elsewhere. But, if you've never really left your own town or state, then this is probably a great book for you and I say buy it and happy trails!

Beth Whitman is thorough. She goes into detail about things that may not have ever crossed the would-be solo traveler's mind. This book should be required reading for all college students.

My order arrived prompt and perfect condition. I like this book and would recommend for all, whom travelling a lot, even if not alone.

As a middle aged woman who has traveled as a single since the age of 15, I was insulted by how silly the themes presented for the 'solo woman traveler' are. Really??! Telling an adult woman to be comfortable eating alone, or how to have 'sexual hook-ups' in various cultures: 'Don't lead the guy on, because they might not understand that all you want is a fling' (paraphrased). Oh please. A chapter devoted to remembering condoms and your birth control pills in case you meet someone?? This author insults the intelligence of the American woman -- no matter her age. I was hoping for some actual helpful tips -- not "chick-lit" billed as a bona fide travel reference.

Not what I expected, disappointed. Not what I expected, disappointed, repeat again and again trying to get in my required fifteen words.

Beth's book, "Wanderlust and Lipstick" appeals to both the savvy traveler looking for a few extra tips as well as the new-bee setting out on her first adventure. It's full of reasons to just go out and experience something new replacing all reservations with confidence that you can do it! As a woman of my word I finished the book yesterday and booked part of a 5+ month excursion today (mostly solo)... something I've been hesitant to do for a while now, thank you, Beth. I think you've addressed just about everything there is to address for a woman traveler, even the worst part... coming home! You have some great tips on safety and securing luggage which is so often a worry and places to keep travel documents in case of emergency. I love the added stories of various women in interesting situations along the way. Thank you for putting this together and sharing your extensive and practical knowledge.

The Construction Alphabet Book (Jerry Pallotta's Alphabet Books), by Jerry Pallotta

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 2–Pallotta follows the alphabetical formula used in many of his other titles, this time with Bolster's illustrations to showcase different types of construction equipment. Upper- and lowercase letters are paired with brief descriptive paragraphs that explain how pieces of construction equipment–from an aerial lift to a zipper–are used. Some of the machines are used in demolition, some for roads; others to clear land or erect buildings. Treatment is brief. A backhoe, cement mixer, dump truck, jackhammer, and wrecking ball will be more familiar to children than a horizontal borer, knuckleboom loader, mobile rock crusher, quad-axle lowbed, and vactor. The realistic paintings, rich in tones of blue, brown, red, green, and orange, will attract youngsters. Libraries with a high demand for construction-related books should consider adding this appealing title.–Lynn K. From Booklist

PreS-Gr. 2. This alphabet book spotlights large-scale construction equipment, from "A is for Aerial Lifts" to "Z is for Zipper . . . used to slice asphalt." With three pages left after Z, the book playfully starts over with "A is for Asphalt Reclaimer" through "C is for Compactor" and suggests that children finish the next 23 letters themselves. Pallotta provides more information than most picture books about the topic for this age group, with a typical entry including three or four sentences with an occasional suggestion of the sound a vehicle or tool makes: "crunch, crunch, crunch . . . eng, eng, eng." Sometimes a bit of facetious humor ("Do not use a road cutter to cut your toenails") lightens the tone of the text. The handsome illustrations, which have the look of acrylic paintings, are well composed and precisely delineated. Suitable for primary-graders as well as for preschoolers who have the patience to look carefully for a minute or two before turning the page. Carolyn PhelanCopyright © American Library Association. This book was a gift for my 2 year old's birthday 2 weeks ago. He absolutely loves it. It has been read to him every day since and even with gentle use, it fell apart within a few days. We were even more careful than usual after reading another review about the binding quality, but to no avail. Several pages have completely detached from the binding already. That has never happened to any of our children's books before. It is such a shame. Exceptionally poor quality. I finally had to put it away and now it's in book-limbo. What am I to do with a beloved book that fell apart & would cost a small fortune to have rebound? The content of the book is fabulous. Beautiful illustrations and engaging descriptions.I really hope the quality is improved though. Extremely disappointing.

Finally, I can hold meaningful conversations with my four year old without him having to stoop down to my level!I, and other moms in the neighborhood, used to refer to any big construction vehicle in the vicinity as a bulldozer. The looks of searing disappointment he gave at those times has been etched into my soul. Never again. You should check out the author's other alphabet books. We also have the underwater one and the beetle one, and my son loves all of them.

This is a fantastic book! My 2 year old makes us read it to him every night. It not only teaches the abc's but also the names of construction equipment. Which is a bonus for me because I don't know all of the names. And my little one is always asking what they are called.Illustrations are well done as well .I would definetly recommend this book.

My almost two year old son is obsessed with this book, and it is helping tremendously with his letter recognition. He loves the illustrations, and we love that it doesn't 'dumb down' the information for children. It's really adorable when he asks to see the knucklebone loader by name. He requests this for his bedtime story every night, and we have been very careful not to let him mistreat it. We have had it just over a month (incidentally, just outside of the return window), and it is completely falling apart. All of the center pages have separated from the binding and have fallen out. The only option I see is to put the pages in a binder, which is disappointing- it was a beautiful book- or to buy a new one, which I'd be willing to do, but afraid it would also just fall apart.

A good idea, but not very well executed. A bit too serious, and the choice of vehicles and names is a bit exotic. Probably it would make most sense to a child of a construction worker, living in the 70s.ABC books should feel canonical and comprehensive, like the alphabet itself. This feels a bit like a stretch.

I bought these for my two grandsons for Christmas. This is a beautiful, well-done, engaging book! I wish I had had it for my sons so we could correctly name the various pieces of machinery that we saw around. "Real" books--about real life rather than some Disney cartoon--are a bit hard to find. And just try finding one that isn't dorky or girly about horses! --And that has correct information. I really don't know enough about this subject matter to know for sure that it is all completely on target, but it seems to be written by someone who actually knows. I'm really tired of books that teach children that baby horses are ponies or that horses are for girls. This book would be well enjoyed by either boys OR girls that wanted to know about all these things! YAY!!! Just a fine book. Three of my children do not have children of their own yet--but when they do, a copy of this book will be in each house! Jerry Pallotta--I'm looking for more of your books! Ooh, and I didn't check the illustrator's name--but it's a name I will look for as well.

We have been through several copies of this book. My son, now 9, has autism, and has been obsessed with construction since about the age of 2. He was having difficulty learning his letters, and this book fixes that. He learned the names of all the trucks, then we started pointing out the letters that went with them, eventually moving to asking him to find the letter. By the middle of kindergarten he had tested out on upper and lower case letters! We bought a copy as a farewell gift for his kindergarten teacher. We wrote a letter to the author and illustrator expressing how great this book had been for our son and got an email back from the illustrator thanking us for sharing our son's story. If you have a child who likes big trucks, grab this book for them.

This book has been my boys' (age 5 and 4) favorite for about 3 years. We have read it so many times that it is beginning to come apart. I'm actually going to buy another soon because my boys have literally loved this book to death. There is SO much information in this book. When they were younger I used to just read the first sentence on each page and do the sound effects. Now that they are a bit older I read it all, but I don't really have to since they have most of it memorized because we've read it 100 million times.

Review

Profoundly moving, expertly crafted tale… a singular masterpiece, exceptionally well-served by Kay's atmospheric and ominous illustrations… tackles the toughest of subjects by refusing to flinch, meeting the ugly truth about life head-on with compassion, bravery, and insight.—Publishers Weekly (starred review)There’s no denying it: this is one profoundly sad story. But it’s also wise, darkly funny and brave, told in spare sentences, punctuated with fantastic images and stirring silences. Past his sorrow, fright and rage, Conor ultimately lands in a place — an imperfect one, of course — where healing can begin. A MONSTER CALLS is a gift from a generous storyteller and a potent piece of art.—The New York TimesA nuanced tale that draws on elements of classic horror stories to delve into the terrifying terrain of loss. . . . Ness brilliantly captures Conor’s horrifying emotional ride as his mother’s inevitable death approaches. In an ideal pairing of text and illustration, the novel is liberally laced with Kay’s evocatively textured pen-and-ink artwork, which surrounds the text, softly caressing it in quiet moments and in others rushing toward the viewer with a nightmarish intensity.A poignant tribute to the life and talent of Siobhan Dowd and an astonishing exploration of fear.—Kirkus Reviews (starred review)A brilliantly executed, powerful tale.—School Library Journal (starred review)Ness twists out a resolution that is revelatory in its obviousness, beautiful in its execution, and fearless in its honesty. Kays artwork keeps the pace, gnawing at the edges of the pages with thundercloud shadows and keeping the monster just barely, terribly seeable.—Booklist (starred review)A masterpiece about life and loss that will stay with the reader long after the final page is turned.—Library Media Connection (starred review)The heavily textured monochromatic illustrations are silent screams, rendering Conor's inner chaos palpable with dense shading and jagged edges symbolizing the wildness within while shifting perspectives alternately create intimacy and distance, like the push and pull he feels as he tries to stay engaged in an impossibly painful situation… Emotionally wrenching, this draws truth across pain in a way that is accessible to middle-school readers.—Bulletin of the Center for Children's BooksHeart-wrenching and thought-provoking.—The Horn BookPatrick Ness is an insanely beautiful writer.—TIME MagazineThe power of this beautiful and achingly sad story for readers over the age of 12 derives not only from Mr. Ness's capacity to write heart-stopping prose but also from Jim Kay's stunning black-ink illustrations. There are images in these pages so wild and ragged that they feel dragged by their roots from the deepest realms of myth.—Wall Street JournalThe monster is a brilliant creation — part giant, part yew tree, destructive, didactic, elemental...The book has the thrills and ambition you would expect from the author of the Chaos Walking trilogy...Ness, Dowd, Kay and Walker have rifled death's pockets and pulled out a treasure.—The GuardianFeatured/recommended on Oprah's 2012 Kids Reading List—Oprah.comAn honest, heart-wrenching story that moved me to tears.—John Boyne (author of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas)

I have been reading aloud to my twins every night, and I thought this might be a book they would enjoy, because of the illustrations. I ended up finishing it with them within 24 hours. You know how you come across a book, and after reading it, you feel like EVERYONE needs to read it as well? That is how I felt with this book. As a mother, this book ripped my heart to shreds, and put me in an emotional state as I was reading it to my sons. But it was worth every tear I shed. Guys, if you haven't read this book, Do it! The story, the writing, the illustrations, this book was pure perfection and a total 5 out of 5 stars for me.If you have read this, what were your thoughts?

Majority of the previous reviewer's are correct. A Monster Calls: Inspired by an idea from Siobhan Dowd, is a book everyone in your family can benefit from. The story revolves around Conor and he is in the mist of battling strange nightmares, bullies at school, and a close family member heart breaking disease. Conor ends up learning life lessons from an unlikely entity and uncover feelings within himself he never knew exist. The imagery in the novel is amazing. A reader can feel, imagine, and visualize some of the key moments Conor experience (the bullying, anger at his grandmother). The novel is perfect for a child/teenager who is going through personal issues whether it is dealing with death, acceptance, or carrying around unnecessary guilt. In addition, a movie is available to rent on Amazon.com. However, I highly recommend you read the novel first before the movie (it will help you to understand significant moments). Overall, a moving novel that depicts real life events, relationships, and feelings. I appreciate you for taking time out to read my review. I hope it is informative.

Beautifully written and hauntingly illustrated, Ness’ novel tells the story of Conor, a young boy who suffers from a recurring nightmare about his mother, who is ill with cancer. Practically friendless—save for a girl named Lily, whom Conor seems to shun—and bullied in school, Conor copes with his loneliness and fear by calling on a monster who appears to him in the form of a yew tree. The monster—whose real purpose grows apparent as the novel progresses—tells Conor three stories in preparation for hearing Conor tells his own story.A narrative about the truth and knowledge contained within stories and their inherent ability to empower us, Ness’ novel tackles the experience of youthful trauma with sensitivity, poignancy, and grace. It’s the first of his novels that I’ve read, but it certainly will not be the last.

Never have I read such a poignant and accessible book on accepting monsters invading our lives. This book is a mere 205 pages, easily readable in a day due to the layout, but has stuck with me continuously over the past two years.Conor is a young boy filled with fear because of his mothers illness, and harbors the bravery of a thousand men. As we all do at every point in our life, he needs guidance, given to him in the form of the monster- a yew tree. He is as old as the land, and has many stories to tell- four of which he tells Conor.Patrick Ness has done an excellent job capturing and humanizing the reality none of us want or know how to face, and forces us to confront the same fears Conor is experiencing. There were many moments where my face was soaked in tears. Death and the way we experience it, our truth, is a topic Ness gracefully introduces and allows us to feel the pain along with his main character. Conor is more human and more real than any other character I have encountered. The illustrations by Jim Kay are beautifully done, creating a slightly uncomfortable but very enthralling atmosphere between the pages. When someone asks for a young-adult recommendation, I immediately suggest A Monster Calls, with the warning that there will be emotions not usually confronted by young adults. Be prepared for difficult, but important, discussions with your students, friends, or children .

With beautiful illustrations by Jim Kay, Patrick Ness tells an intensely emotional story about a child and a monster. This book had a massive impact on me. It was an easy read - from this perspective, it's probably very accessible from middle school on up. But the subject matter is intense. My eyes weren't dry as I finished it. It's very well-done.Conor's mother is dying of cancer. All this while, a monster, in the form of the yew tree in his backyard is visiting him at night. It's a fascinating story.I picked up this book with my other October reads, and with a name of A Monster Calls, I assumed it was about monsters. But it's so much more. It's about stories, about love, about loss. About dealing with the hard things in life.I recommend it, even thought it twisted my guts inside out upon reading it. It's extremely emotional. I won't say anything else, to not spoil it from anyone, but it's a worthy read.

My wife cried throughout most of the second half of the novel and loved the writing. I, too, was impressed with the writing, and the story kept me engaged, although I thought a couple of the lessons from the monster were created to give a shock or twist ending just for the sake of it. There were definitely some holes in logic for me, but I still enjoyed the ride. And the artwork was stunning. It's also a quick read, maybe a couple hours. And there is a great lesson about having to face your fears and another concerning how actions are more important than thoughts. Finally, it proves that one can write a compelling work without having to resort to sex, cuss words, unnecessary violence, and inappropriate scenes.

Review

"With her DIY Project Based Learning books, Heather opens up her extensive toolkit and invites fellow teachers to take a look―and borrow liberally. It’s a generous move by a teacher who has worked hard to develop her own, deep understanding of PBL and to design projects that resonate with students." --From the Foreword by Suzie Boss, Education Consultant and National Faculty Member for the Buck Institute for Education, Portland, Oregon "This book is worth your time. Heather Wolpert-Gawron’s conversational writing style and step-by-step guidance take you on a magical journey, energize you, and fill your head with new possibilities. These innovative teaching units, mix-and-match lessons, and ready-to-use tools provide a rich array of material to bring your classroom to life. Heather is a truly talented curriculum designer with a gift for inspiring and connecting with her readers." --Anne Jolly, PLC Consultant with Learning Forward and author of STEM by Design (Routledge, 2016) "Heather Wolpert-Gawron is that rare teacher that will go to any length to bring a subject to life. I know so, because as a quantum physicist at Caltech, I am invited to her classroom every year to help her students create powerful superhero origin stories that incorporate real science into their chosen superpowers. In this book, you will find Heather's philosophy on teaching math and science effectively, as well as fully developed lessons from which any teacher can draw to create their own Project Based Learning modules. Perhaps, most importantly, teachers will find here the inspiration and tools they need to unlock their very own superpowers, the ones that make students say years later, 'I had this one math teacher that made me fall in love with math.'" --Spyridon Michalakis, Research Scientist and Manager of Outreach, Institute for Quantum Information and Matter, California Institute of Technology "...this text would be beneficial for a teacher looking for alternate ways to assess their students in a meaningful way. I would also recommend this book to preservice teachers as it encompasses the NCTM Process Standards that are addressed in some state curricula." -- Katelyn Devine,Virginia Beach City Public Schools

This is an excellent book on project-based learning, one of the best I've read in fact. The author includes many step-by-step examples of projects she's used in her own classroom. You can use the projects as starters for your own classroom, or there also is a section on "mix-and-match lesson" which provides handouts and suggestions for the individual parts that make up her projects. Great ideas that really provide a fantastic framework for teachers looking for extra guidance on how to shift from a mostly teacher-directed classroom to one that incorporates much more PBL. I've read several PBL books, but this was the first one that motivated me to rethink my curriculum right now and make changes immediately. I've totally rewritten my next unit I'm covering based on ideas and advice from this book. This is largely because she frames it in such a straightforward and easy to adopt way. I HIGHLY recommend this book to teachers looking to have a more inquiry-based classroom.

This product helped me get a better handle on,what PBL is and had practical advice on how to begin.

I am fortunate enough to be a colleague of Ms. Wolpert and I know her to be an amazing resource for engaging students in their own learning. She teaches and inspires her kids to learn like their heads are on fire! This book is a gigantic step into remaking your classroom into a fully student based and exciting land of learning. Go for it!

An excellent collection of essays on African Law and Legal Theory. I have recommended it as a textbook for my students for my course on African Legal Theory, Law and Development. The book should be required reading in African Law Schools. The price is a bit stiff though.

Great book. Easy read. Love the engaging writing style. My only disappointment is that it would have been nice if the kindle version included a download of the music. The paperback version includes a CD. When I looked at the seller's product list, she does offer CDs but the price for a CD alone would be more than I would have paid for the paperback version which includes a book and cd. Doesn't quite seem fair. :( Other kindle books I've purchased offer links for additional downloads.

Clear, concise, and articulately delivers an introduction to the info I spent my 60+ years on the Path learning the hard way. This is a great way to gain a basic understanding of the various aspects of journeying, from the sheer pleasures to the inherent dangers and pitfalls. Accompanied by a very nice audio cd, this is a terrific package to use as a starting point for your journeying experiences.

A nice solid intro to the subject. I loved the drumming CD. It is a quick, easy read. Also, Sandra Ingerman is very generous with her knowledge. She has tons of free information on her web page and on you tube.

I've tried listening to the drumming many times. I just imagined, allowing imagination to unfold by itself. But I really doubt whether it's just imagination, because I didn't went through any trance entering sensations (like entering lucid dream, or a shallow meditation state), I actually didn't feel any of the transfer of conscious state. And in the same way, I tried to go to the "middle world", which is this world, I tried to confirm what I saw in the journey (like numbers on a car plate, scratch on the wall, etc.), but non of those match with the physical reality. On the other hand, if I stop imagining and focus on the drum beats, I would just hear drum beats all the way to the end.I think I'm not doing it right.

I have almost all of Sandra's books. This is a good book to have in the collection. It can seem repetitive but I think that's the point. She is very intentional in the way she writes. It's not a mistake. This is called a beginner's guide for a reason. While I was not quite a beginner, I still learned! If you are not familiar with Sandra Ingerman, I urge you to read her other books. She is amazing.

This book has been extremely helpful to me. Ms Ingerman has explained how to journey is such a simple way that there anyone who wants to journey can by just following her guidance. This book has answered many questions for me. The CD is also wonderful! I highly recommend this book to beginners and to those who want to review.

This book is a great overview and starter book into shamanism. Great way to jump in. Well written and easily inderstandable. You can tell the author thought writing this book through

This was a quick read, giving great beginning information into Shamanism and beginning your Journeying. The Drumming CD included is a bonus that I use. I have been meditating and taking other energy/spiritual classes and now learning more on Shamanism. I recommend this as a tool to get started in exploring yourself. I have shared some of the information in this book with those I have visited.

My wife was raised Catholic, and now our children will be attending a Catholic school. I wanted to learn as much about the church as possible. This book was quick and easy to read. There was a lot of information with a little bit of humor sprinkled in. If you want to learn more about Catholics and their church, this is a great read! I'm seriously considering going the church myself now.

Excellent reference book for Roman Catholics. Hundreds of pages with interesting historical facts and current news about the Catholic Church. This book is apparently an updated consolidation of 3 or 4 previous "dummy" books about Catholicism. Learned lots of interesting tidbits. Sisters that teach in Catholic schools are technically not nuns. How many popes were known as the "...the Great?" Etc., etc.

I give it 4 stars because it's not really the full versions of the 5 books listed on the cover. They are condensed versions of all 5 books mixed into one which is somewhat understandable as that would make for an extremely heavy book. The most disappointing cut from this version for me is the appendix on Church History that is featured in Catholicism for Dummies. In addition, very little of John Paul II for Dummies was included here. But if you don't mind that, what is included here is interesting, well written, informative, and easy to understand. It also saves you money from spending money on 5 different books.

We are using this as our main material resource for this year's RCIA process. It is an easy read and chocked full of information that is useful for those new to the faith as well as those who have been practicing Catholicism for many years.

I very much liked this book. There are a couple other versions, but this one offers the best value for your money. My family didn't teach me much about God and religion, so I bought this book and it greatly helped me.

Very good explanation of Catholicism. Hits all the essentials without getting too theological for the layman, and dispels many of the myths and false impressions that some have. Good for a review by Catholics, and good for non-Catholics interested in what Catholicism really is.

I LOVE this book. Catholicism All-in-One For Dummies has lots of information. I was looking for Catholic books to share with a non Catholic, and also looking for books for my son who was about to receive his Confirmation. Well, I am the one reading this book. Hope to share this book with other family members. Certainly worth the money.

I've been Catholic all my life, but I just devoured this book. If you are intimidated by the Catechism and want a refresher (especially for those of us who had "thin" CCD), this is a must read.
