Explicit, clear, step-by-step directions on how to do the thing (with screenshots and diagrams). Google AdWords demystified.
This is literally the best $15 I spent in 2016. I had recently hired an Adwords consultant for $500 a month to run the Adwords for my small bookkeeping business. To my horror, one month into the process I discovered that one of the ads they had written used the word "booking" instead of "bookkeeping". This is an ad I had spent hundreds of dollars on.Needless to say, my confidence was dashed. So I started trying to educate myself on Adwords. I took courses on Lynda, read blogs, took classes on Udemy, you name it. Nothing gave me the kind of practical, comprehensive, step-by-step breakdown of the platform that I needed to confidently manage the platform on my own.Until now. Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. I finished the book in two days, and it is HEAVILY annotated. I immediately found mistakes that my previous consultant had made in my Adwords account. Today I ran my first ads on my own, with no outside input. I feel confident about them.Don't waste time with other books and outside Adwords consultant. Buy this one, manage your account on your own.I'll update this review once my campaigns have been running a few months to see if this confidence remains down the road.
This book offers a fairly well organized, clearly written set of advice on what Google AdWords is, why it matters, and how to use it effectively. If you're completely overwhelmed by the idea of using AdWords, then this book might be for you. As someone who has worked through Google's (short, completely free) "Adwords Fundamentals" course, I didn't find it especially helpful. To be sure, though, I did pick up a few points of practical advice that might have justified the cost of the book. However...There is a lot of fluff. Almost completely blank pages. Stories about nephews. Pep talks. I would have preferred a slimmer, more to-the-point book that didn't insult my intelligence by masquerading as more than it actually is, which is a somewhat bloated "get rich, you can do it!" book by an author who never drops his sales act.
There are mixed feelings about Perry Marshall and some of his stuff. I bought this book as a total beginner, followed every step laid out, and now am running a successful campaign for Adwords. I'm already getting a 15% CTR. Even the Google people were impressed with how I set it up, and couldn't believe it was my first campaign.I've only been running my ads for a couple of weeks, and I'm A/B testing as Perry lays out, so I will be excited to see how my funnel converts.
This and Perry’s 80/20 Sales & Marketing are core books for any entrepreneurs marketing library.

This book has provided me with a wealth of knowledge on the subject of Adwords, I have struggled with Adwords in the past and wasted thousands of dollars on unprofitable campaigns but after reading this book I think my future Adwords campaigns will be much more effective and better optimized, the book also touches on other topics including writing effective sales copy, email marketing, and more, 5 stars.

To me Adwords is just like a big stock market, but instead of Stocks you buy Keywords. Everything I knew about Marketing previous to getting involved in SEM, was based on last semester of school. I took a Marketing class as a requirement for my Business Minor andthought it was silly and not really applicable to the real world. After four years of building software in a software development group I have moved over to the dark side. Yes, instead of worrying about user experience, and how well the site is working I now worry about cramming advertising on web pages, so I needed some background on marketing again.It can't be stated enough that Search Engine Marketing is not the same as Brand Advertising. This was the 2nd book I have read on the topic. The book will teach you Direct marketers set one goal from their ads: to compel a measurable response from their prospects. What better way to measure response than AdWords as it keeps track of everything expecially when tied to Google Analytics.I loved the example they gave in chapter 13 about the Wright Brothers. It is often the sidebars that made this book interesting. This book was packed with information without reading like a textbook, so the little stories I could tolerate. However,I never did understand the "Uncle Claude Sez segments", I could have done without those. Also, like many others I never did find the $85 Google Success toolkit. Overall this helped me run my Adwords campaign better. Also Perry's website is great if you get a chance to check it out. The Split testing tool is fantastic.
