This is literally the best $15 I spent in 2016. I had recently hired an Adwords consultant for $500 a month to run the Adwords for my small bookkeeping business. To my horror, one month into the process I discovered that one of the ads they had written used the word "booking" instead of "bookkeeping". This is an ad I had spent hundreds of dollars on.Needless to say, my confidence was dashed. So I started trying to educate myself on Adwords. I took courses on Lynda, read blogs, took classes on Udemy, you name it. Nothing gave me the kind of practical, comprehensive, step-by-step breakdown of the platform that I needed to confidently manage the platform on my own.Until now. Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. I finished the book in two days, and it is HEAVILY annotated. I immediately found mistakes that my previous consultant had made in my Adwords account. Today I ran my first ads on my own, with no outside input. I feel confident about them.Don't waste time with other books and outside Adwords consultant. Buy this one, manage your account on your own.I'll update this review once my campaigns have been running a few months to see if this confidence remains down the road.

This book offers a fairly well organized, clearly written set of advice on what Google AdWords is, why it matters, and how to use it effectively. If you're completely overwhelmed by the idea of using AdWords, then this book might be for you. As someone who has worked through Google's (short, completely free) "Adwords Fundamentals" course, I didn't find it especially helpful. To be sure, though, I did pick up a few points of practical advice that might have justified the cost of the book. However...There is a lot of fluff. Almost completely blank pages. Stories about nephews. Pep talks. I would have preferred a slimmer, more to-the-point book that didn't insult my intelligence by masquerading as more than it actually is, which is a somewhat bloated "get rich, you can do it!" book by an author who never drops his sales act.

There are mixed feelings about Perry Marshall and some of his stuff. I bought this book as a total beginner, followed every step laid out, and now am running a successful campaign for Adwords. I'm already getting a 15% CTR. Even the Google people were impressed with how I set it up, and couldn't believe it was my first campaign.I've only been running my ads for a couple of weeks, and I'm A/B testing as Perry lays out, so I will be excited to see how my funnel converts.

This and Perry’s 80/20 Sales & Marketing are core books for any entrepreneurs marketing library.

To me Adwords is just like a big stock market, but instead of Stocks you buy Keywords. Everything I knew about Marketing previous to getting involved in SEM, was based on last semester of school. I took a Marketing class as a requirement for my Business Minor andthought it was silly and not really applicable to the real world. After four years of building software in a software development group I have moved over to the dark side. Yes, instead of worrying about user experience, and how well the site is working I now worry about cramming advertising on web pages, so I needed some background on marketing again.It can't be stated enough that Search Engine Marketing is not the same as Brand Advertising. This was the 2nd book I have read on the topic. The book will teach you Direct marketers set one goal from their ads: to compel a measurable response from their prospects. What better way to measure response than AdWords as it keeps track of everything expecially when tied to Google Analytics.I loved the example they gave in chapter 13 about the Wright Brothers. It is often the sidebars that made this book interesting. This book was packed with information without reading like a textbook, so the little stories I could tolerate. However,I never did understand the "Uncle Claude Sez segments", I could have done without those. Also, like many others I never did find the $85 Google Success toolkit. Overall this helped me run my Adwords campaign better. Also Perry's website is great if you get a chance to check it out. The Split testing tool is fantastic.

I am a university professor who teaches biostatistics and I find this to be one of the best books that bridges the gap between analytics and presentation. There are some excellent books around that show visualization (e.g., The Wall Street Journal Guide to Information Graphics: The Dos and Don'ts of Presenting Data, Facts, and Figures or books by Few Information Dashboard Design: Displaying Data for At-a-Glance Monitoring &Show Me the Numbers: Designing Tables and Graphs to Enlighten or Cairo The Truthful Art: Data, Charts, and Maps for Communication) and there are good books on presentation (in particular I love Duarte's books Resonate: Present Visual Stories that Transform Audiences) but this book is unique in how well it blends the two topics. I have never seen such an excellent presentation on how to build a series of graphics. That is, with books by Few or Cairo you will know how to make *a* great graphic and with advice from Duarte, you can connect with your audience but with this book you will see how to build a series of interrelated graphics that highlight different parts of a dataset. Most of the examples are spun around business but the examples are easy to extend to any field.While I think the author wrote this for people who do presentations in any quantitative field for a living, this book should be required reading for graduate students preparing to defend a dissertation or thesis.

People wanting a basic introduction to presentation graphics would bewell served by this book by Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic. Prerequisites areminimal: there is almost no mathematical content and no use of any butthe most elementary statistical methods. Knaflic's encouraging messageis that MS Excel and PowerPoint can be quite enough software for goodgraphics, but you will need to go beyond the defaults and work at thedetails.Almost all the examples are of very small datasets already to hand withtwo-way structure. 2 variables for 12 months and 5 products for 7 yearsare typical sizes. In practice when analysing data it can be hard workdeciding what methods to use and reducing a mass of raw data to aconcise summary. She has a goodeye and sound logic on what looks and works well and what does not.Examples show how mediocre graphs can be improved by reducing clutter,killing the key, better use of color, and similar standard tricks.Horizontal bar charts are usually more readable than vertical, and piecharts and a false third dimension are best avoided: these points havebeen well made many times, yet do deserve forceful repetition. Variouskinds of bar and line charts are her main work-horses.Sometimes the discussion seems a little contrived, as poor graphs areset up to be shot down, but that's often what convinces. Readers shouldbe on the author's side as she encourages us towards effective andtasteful graphics. Her combinations of blue for data deserving emphasisand grey for data providing context -- or of blue and orange for groupsto contrast -- are good design patterns for experienced analysts as wellas outright beginners.The closing chapters are more long-winded and repetitive, but do includesmall gems. A splendid case study on avoiding spaghetti graphics (lotsof tangled lines) stands out, and the problem and the ideas deservedmore.I always find it disappointing when datasets are fabricated orsufficiently anonymous that they might as well be. People care mostabout their own data which an author cannot provide, and confidentialityconstraints often bite, but real data examples are still generallypreferable to fake. Noris it an absolute principle that every axis needs a title. If the axislabels are 2008 to 2015, no one should need "Year" to explain what ishappening. Far from being "extremely rare" (p.141), several exceptionsto that principle are included in this book!A note on style: Inside a very useful book is an even more usefulshorter book struggling to get out. For my taste, the motivationalwarm-ups and little anecdotes are often too spun-out or too trite. Goodgraphics should be presented as illustrations within a good story: a keypoint, but not one that required a long chapter with digressions on RedRiding Hood or on Aristotle on drama, or advice from a junior highschool teacher. A tighter copy-editor would have signalled that"leverage" (used as a verb about 70 times) was too much of a personalfavorite, while "de-emphasize" for "tone down", "utilize" for "use" and"incredible" for things all too credible are among several otherrepeated tics.An easy solution is to skip and skim: if a book is on graphics, you canalways just look at the graphics. In this case, Knaflic has written aworthwhile book that, small details aside, does well what it tries todo.

This book was required by my data visualization class. I wasn't able to find a cheap used version of this book so I ended up reading the temporary PDF my school had at the library. Let's just say this... This book is SO good and SO useful, that I ended up shelling out money to buy it AFTER I've read the book already and AFTER the class was over. I think it's just such a handy guide for anyone to have. I'm sick of crappy presentations overloaded with meaningless data that don't convey any useful information. If you are too, I highly recommend this book.

This is an excellent account of an often-overlooked battle in WW2. Samar is usually discussed, when it's discussed at all, only as part of the larger Battle of Leyte Gulf. Given the incredible odds faced by the ships and sailors of Taffy 3, and the unbelievable manner in which they prosecuted their attack (especially the DDs and DEs), the Battle off Samar deserves it's own, separate narrative. Hornfischer delivers in spades. The book reads almost like an historical novel, well-written, with a tension-building backstory, detailed but not too detailed descriptions of the machinery of naval war, and strong character development that makes you care about the individuals involved as persons and not just names from history. The author's ability to draw you into the lives of the ships and the men on them will put you on the edge of your seat as you read the battle narrative, and may well break the reader's heart as they read of the tremendously brutal cost these men paid.A nice added touch: I bought "Last Stand..." as a Kindle book, and the maps would not only enlarge for viewing on the device, but also included links to print them out at home. As a map nerd I really appreciated this, and hope it becomes the norm for any book of military history.This is one of my favorite books on the war in the Pacific. I've read it 3 times now, and probably will again. HIGHLY recommended for anyone who is interested in military history.

The other brothers served on various ships in the Pacific. Fortunately, none of them were killed or maimed in battle but it was a desperate time for the USA. This extraordinary account of the Battle of Leyte Gulf (with a special focus on the DDs and DEs) is the best account I've read. It's not a view from 35,000 ft; this account takes you deckside and below as smaller ships led by daring and resourceful men stopped a superior surface fleet. This is a book you'll just have to read 'one more chapter' before you hit the sack. There have been books written focusing on strategies, judgement errors on both sides and the hand that luck (good or bad) plays out. This account puts you at the various scenes - you can smell the aftermath of big guns being fired, you can sense the desperation of being attacked by bigger ships, you can see and smell the battle damage including the carnage of many involved and you are once more reminded of the incalculable debt we owe these men.

I pretty much read this book from cover to cover. Then I read it again. This book will be a go to book for years to come seeking inspiration for my writing of military Science Fiction. Uncommon bravery was common in those fateful hours as Task Force Taffy 3 fought against overwhelming odds to win the day at great sacrifice. They faced down a Japanese battleship task force including the 18 inch guns of the Yamato with only torpedo’s, five inch guns and anti-aircraft guns.The stories will stun you into shocked silence at the bravery of every member of that task force. Patton said, “It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived” and you will wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment after reading this book.My only problem with the book is the same thing that I’ve found with many mainstream publishers–their pricing. When the Kindle version of the book is only 19 cents cheaper than the paperback, something is seriously wrong. This book had been on my “Buy and read list” for a long time and I’m very glad I plunked down the money for it. I did wonder what other great books I missed that were more reasonably priced because I bought this one.

I had heard of the battle of the "jeep" carriers vs. The central Japanese fleet, how the Japanese decked out Halsey to steam North after an irresistible target, the Imperial fleet's aircraft carriers. I read of the bravery, the improbable victory over a vastly superior foe, suicide destroyer charges against battleships and cruisers........And I knew nothing. Hornfisher's recounting of the battle puts you in the middle of it: you meet the men involved, feel the fear and bravery, and experience the sheer horror of the last major battle between navies (yes, that long ago). It was horrible reading it, being there must have been ghastly.So a great read, 40 plane "mini" carriers with older planes with the help of local airstrips maneuver, attack, and pull off an amazing win, well worth it

This collection, The Fairer Sex, has eight stories ranging from a 16-minute read to the longest one at 56 minutes. Lauren is an 18-minute read. All works in the collection are available for “free” with a Kindle Unlimited subscription.At only twenty-six, Lauren has an art gallery. She had been planning and doing the necessary groundwork since her junior year in college. With a master’s degree in Art History and a published thesis on graffiti art, she had academic credentials. Creation of the gallery, choosing the right place and interior decorations, required money but she had access to almost unlimited capital and credit. Financial security and backing came through her mother and her mother’s contacts. Mom had been an early, aggressive and highly successful entrepreneur on Wall Street. Several months earlier, Lauren had quit her full-time job and devoted all her time to finalizing business plans and lining up artists for an opening night presentation.Her mother, her mother’s background, and Lauren’s childhood relationship with her mother combine to create the conflict in this short story. Lauren has done everything in her life to fulfill both a subconscious and a conscious desire to be acknowledged by her mother. On this very important opening night, the only person she truly wants to see is her mother. Mom’s appearance will be the assurance Lauren needs to have that Mom is proud of her and her achievement. The surprise in the story will be created in the reader’s mind and appears in the very last word.I was impressed by the ending. It provided a jolt that asked, “Do you think you know what is happening?” The story has an understated and powerful ending. If I think about what I have read a few hours after I have read it, I rate the story as very good. I give this story five Amazon stars and will undoubtedly read all short reads in this collection.

Maybe I'm just not a fan of Michelle Miller's writing. This story was better than the last one (Candace) I read but I found it just as difficult to read. So many run-on, over descriptive sentences. I even came across one that ended in a preposition. That's a basis grammar no-no.I'm not going to bother reading the rest of these short stories.

This story, one of a series about eight young women living in NYC, sneaks up on one. Lauren is privileged, rich and connected to the elite of the city's society. The hugely successful opening of her own art gallery is only marred by her mother's absence. What ensues is gritty and shocking.

trying to move past the Fair Sex part ... i think ladies rock, ladies deserve more praise to all they do ... I love finding these collections by Amazon ... this one is all by Michelle Miller ... i thought they usually were different authors not the same? I am still trying to figure how they are related - usually it is just the lady part? newbie to Michelle's writing??! was curious. they are easily listened to. not long at all.

On the opening night of her own gallery, Lauren appears to have it all. However sometimes there's something that money can't buy that always remains elusive, tarnishing the perfect shine.

This is a brief, enjoyable, and very astute read.I was surprised how complicated human emotions were expressed so concisely in this well written short story.

This story just made me so sad. It was dysfunctional and filled with super low self esteem. Not for me

Plunged deeply into a story and left me intrigued and wanting more from this author. Hope to read more soon.

I bought this book because I had seen aw it in a Tiffany store: I had been amazed by the quality of the pictures and the huge tabloid format of this great iconic book. This version I received is totally different. First the format is much smaller, but the worst is that the quality of photographs is very poor: over contrasted, saturated, with a lot of noise and in most case they are even blurred. Very disappointing.

I purchased this particular book because it was written by Nat Geo. Who better could give me inside info on what to see when I visit Japan? Who doesn’t know about the cherry blossoms and the numerous shrines already? You can get much better info online. A waste of my money.

When it comes to travelling I am an avid planner. Once I decide what country I'm going to I buy the Eyewitness Travel book, read it cover to cover, and then plan out my entire trip. I bought this book to supplement my collection mainly to help with my initial decision-making (which country to visit and when). This book met my needs and at a great price (it was $10 when I purchased it). I have already read the book and I loaned it to one of my friends who wanted to plan a large family trip in a few years. He wasn't sure what his options were or where he wanted to go so this book was perfect for him.Advantages: this book provides a great jump start for planning a vacation. I love that there are 100 countries across all 7 continents (I didn't even know trips to Antarctica were possible) described within the book. Travel time to each destination is provided from different cities, I remember NY and London, although I'm not sure if there were any others. Since I live in DC, knowing the travel time from NY was very beneficial. There is also information on travel documents needed (passport, visa), required / recommended vaccinations, the best months to travel, pros and cons of each destination, safety information, and some great pictures.Disadvantages: this book obviously won't serve as a single source for your travel planning. Most countries only have two pages of information on each destination although some have much more. The United States, for instance, had at least a dozen pages. For someone that doesn't live in the US that may be useful information, for me it wasn't. You can't get a good feel for what sites are available in each country, but to be fair, that wasn't my reason for purchasing the book.If you are looking for a high-level travel book that provides enough information for you to choose what country or countries you are interested in visiting then this book is perfect for you.

So many places to go. Great to get good ideas and plan for the future. If I can only win the lotto then I can try to make it to most of these places.

Very outdated and little info. Better books out there. Waiting on refund. Had to pay for return shipping.

Beautiful book and great travel idea. Now if I can just invent that great mouse trap and make a billion dollars and travel to all the places.

Got it as a gift for family member. They liked it a lot.

Bought this as a gift for my husband. We live in Europe and travel constantly. Paper is great quality with wonderful graphics and endless ideas for trips to take. My husband loves it and we use it all the time to plan our adventures!
